Hi, I’m trying to figure out how to get Freeview on my TV. I’m not sure if I need a special device or if it’s built in. Can someone walk me through the setup or let me know what I need? Any help would be great!

To access free UK channels, you will require a television with an in-built Freeview tuner or a Freeview set-top box attached to an aerial.

To get Freeview, ensure you have a TV with a built-in digital tuner or a Freeview set-top box. Connect a UHF aerial to your TV or box, perform a channel scan in the settings, and you'll receive over 70 free standard channels.

If you want Freeview on your TV, here’s how I did it — simple steps:
  1. Check if your TV has a built-in Freeview tuner (look for “Freeview” in the TV manual or model specs).
  2. If not, buy a Freeview set‑top box (or a PVR/Freeview+ box) and plug it into your TV with an HDMI cable.
  3. Connect an aerial/antenna to the TV or box (roof or indoor aerial depending on signal).
  4. Turn the TV/box on and run the channel scan / auto-tune in the settings — it finds all available Freeview channels.
  5. If reception is poor, try moving the aerial, switching to a rooftop antenna, or using a signal amplifier.
  6. No subscription needed — Freeview is free, but there are paid add-ons if you want extra services.
(Freeview names/lineups differ by country — the steps above work for the UK, Australia and NZ variants with small differences.)
