What Is Data Roaming?

Can anyone explain what data roaming is? I’ve heard it can lead to extra charges when traveling, but I’m not totally clear on how it works. How do I avoid unexpected fees, and do I need to turn it off when I’m abroad?

Switch Data roaming off in case of traveling to another country without an international plan that specifies a certain price to prevent unnecessary high bills. In case you have bought a global data plan or bought a domestic eSIM to your destination location, data roaming must be activated on the respective travel eSIM/plan.

Data roaming is the ability of your phone to access mobile data when it is not connected to your carrier network usually when traveling. It can introduce additional fees on the basis of your plan.

Data roaming allows mobile users to access internet, email, and apps while traveling outside their home network’s coverage area. It connects through another network provider, often incurring additional charges for using data in foreign or non-local regions.
