updated a wordpress plugin and now my whole site is a white screen with this critical error message. how do i get to the admin panel?

oh man, the white screen of death is the worst. had that happen a few times myself. you definitely can't get to the admin panel directly when it's like this. your best bet is to use FTP. connect to your site, go to wp-content/plugins, and find the folder for the plugin you just updated. rename it (like 'plugin-name_old'). that should deactivate it and hopefully bring your site back so you can log in.

Totally agree with jack_turner here, the FTP trick is usually the first thing you gotta do for the white screen of death. Renaming that plugin folder should bring your site back online, at least enough to get into the admin panel again. Then you can figure out what went wrong with the update. Sometimes clearing your browser cache after renaming helps too, just a little tip. Hope it works out for ya!
