oh man that sucks! happened to me once. what kinda doc is it, like google docs or word? if it's google docs, you usually go to file > version history > see version history. you can literally show them all the changes you made, who made them, and when. for word, it's usually in file > info > version history or 'manage document'. the key is showing them the *progression* of your work, not just the final save. good luck!
