Struggling with your battery draining too fast? Drop your best tips, software tweaks, and hardware hacks to keep laptops running much longer.

I’ve read it’s best to keep the battery between about 20% and 80%, don’t let it drop too low or charge it all the way up. Supposedly that helps it last longer.

To enhance laptop battery life, dim the screen brightness and activate battery saver mode in Microsoft Windows or macOS. Shut down any running applications and background processes to save energy.

"I've found that closing unnecessary background apps and keeping my laptop at a moderate brightness level makes a big difference in battery life. Also, updating your operating system and drivers regularly can help optimize your laptop's power management. Another tip - try to avoid overcharging your battery; let it drop to 20% and recharge it when you can."

I've found that updating the laptop's BIOS and disabling unnecessary background applications can definitely help extend battery life, as mentioned in the thread. However, I also noticed a significant improvement after upgrading the RAM, as it allowed the laptop to efficiently manage tasks without putting excessive strain on the processor and thus reducing power consumption. This was a relatively simple and cost-effective solution for me.

that makes sense i've heard that before too thanks for confirming

yeah lots of good tips already, esp with the screen brightness and background apps. one thing i always do is make sure my power plan is set to 'balanced' or 'power saver' when im on battery. sometimes it gets switched to 'high performance' and that eats juice super fast. also, if your laptop has a high refresh rate screen, dropping it to 60hz can give you a lot more time too.

A few simple tweaks can make a noticeable difference: lower your screen brightness (this alone helps a lot), switch to battery saver/power-efficient mode, and close apps or browser tabs you’re not using since they quietly drain power. Turning off Bluetooth/Wi-Fi when not needed and limiting startup/background apps also helps. I’ve personally seen better battery life just by using dark mode and avoiding heavy apps when unplugged. It’s all about reducing unnecessary load.

I've found that adjusting the power settings makes a huge difference, so try lowering the screen brightness and turning off unnecessary features like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when you're not using them. You can also close resource-intensive programs and background apps to reduce battery drain. I've also had good results with updating my laptop's BIOS and using the power-saving features built into the operating system, such as Windows' Power Saver mode. Additionally, cleaning out dust from the vents and fans can help keep your laptop running cooler and more efficiently, which can also help extend battery life.

I've found that updating my laptop's BIOS to the latest version has made a significant difference in battery life. It appears that the newer BIOS version has improved power management and reduced power consumption. Additionally, I've also noticed that disabling Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not in use can also help conserve battery life. These small tweaks have allowed me to squeeze out an extra hour or two of use on a single charge, which is a noticeable improvement for me.

A few small tweaks go a long way: keep brightness around 50–60%, turn on battery saver, and close apps running in the background (I usually find Chrome tabs are the biggest drain). Disable startup apps you don’t need, switch off Bluetooth/Wi-Fi when not in use, and avoid heavy tasks on battery. Also, don’t keep it plugged in all the time, letting it cycle between ~20–80% has helped me maintain better battery health over time.
