How to deactivate instagram account

Instagram reels are eating up too much of my day. How can I temporarily deactivate my Instagram account for a few weeks to focus on work?

I totally get why you'd want to take a break from Instagram, especially with how addictive the reels can be. To temporarily deactivate your account, you'll need to log in to your account on a web browser, as this option isn't available in the app. Once you're logged in, click on your profile picture in the top right corner, then select "Settings" from the dropdown menu. From there, scroll down to the "Account" section and click on "Account management" or "Temporarily disable my account". You'll be asked why you're disabling your account, and then you can choose a reason and confirm that you want to deactivate it. Keep in mind that when your account is deactivated, your profile and posts will be hidden, but they'll all be restored when you log back in. You can reactivate your account at any time by simply logging back in.

I recently deactivated my Instagram account and I can attest to the steps outlined in the original post. What was more difficult was dealing with the lingering notifications from friends who tried to reach me after my account was gone. To avoid this, it's essential to log out of your Instagram account on all your devices before deactivating it, and also consider setting your account to private in the days leading up to deactivation.

To deactivate your Instagram account:
Go to Profile → Edit Profile → “Temporarily deactivate my account.”
Choose a reason, enter your password, and confirm.

Note: You can only deactivate once per week, and it must be done via a browser, not the app.

To disable your Instagram account temporarily, enter it through a web browser (not the mobile app), open your profile, and from the left side, which is the Edit Profile section, tap Temporarily disable my account. Select a reason, re-enter your password and confirm. You have been logged out and all of your profile, photos, and comments were hidden till you are able to log back in, when they can be restored fully.
