best os for a dedicated htpc?

putting together a living room pc just for plex and youtube. should i use windows 11 or just install batocera/linux?

hey, for just plex and youtube, windows is totally overkill imo. i've run similar setups for years. linux mint or even ubuntu server (if you're comfy with it) with a basic desktop environment would be way snappier and less resource intensive. you'll use a fraction of the ram and cpu compared to win11. batocera is mostly for gaming, so unless you plan to add emulators, a regular lightweight linux distro is probably a better fit. just my two cents from doing it myself.
