yeah it's tough out there for 8-inch tablets tbh. most companies kinda stopped making good ones. if you want something decent that's not fire, a lot of people recommend the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8. it's not super powerful but it's got a clean android experience and feels way better than an amazon fire imo.

the lenovo tab m8 is solid for the price but if you can stretch the budget the new lenovo tab plus 8.7 or the older galaxy tab active 3 are way better in terms of build and speakers. for reading specifically though the onyx boox palma is technically not a 'tablet' but in that size class and runs full android - way more interesting than most fire/cheap options out there.
