Why Can't I Hear Anyone on Discord?

I’m having trouble on Discord — I can’t hear anyone during voice chats. My mic and headphones seem fine, but the audio isn’t working. Can someone help me figure out what might be causing this issue?

Usually, it results from choosing the wrong output device in the Voice & Video settings of Discord. Additional factors include deafness, extremely low output volume, out-of-date audio drivers, or a Windows volume mixer setting that mutes Discord.

The main reason is an incorrect audio output device selected in your Discord Voice & Video settings, or the overall volume is too low (either in Discord or your PC's Volume Mixer).

Other causes include being deafened in a channel, outdated audio drivers, or a software glitch requiring a Discord or PC restart.

I've experienced that as well; typically, it's a simple solution. Try this:
  • Select your headphones or speakers as your output device by going to Discord → User Settings → Voice & Video.
  • Verify that the device's volume is not too low or muted.
  • Restarting your computer or Discord usually helps.
  • Make sure Discord isn't muted in Sound Settings → App volume if you're using Windows.
  • If nothing works, try updating your audio drivers.
Most of the time, the incorrect output device was chosen.

The issue is usually due to incorrect settings or a software conflict.
  • Check Output Device: Go to User Settings > Voice & Video and ensure the correct Output Device (your headphones/speakers) is selected and the volume slider is up.
  • Check Mute/Deafen: Confirm you haven't Deafened yourself or been Server Deafened by an admin.
  • Reset Settings: Try clicking Reset Voice Settings in the Voice & Video menu.
