yeah ive been wondering this too tbh. been keeping an eye on it for a while.
from what i hear, a full IPO is probably a loooong way off, if it even happens in the traditional sense.
the main thing is their weird structure, right? they've got that non-profit parent (OpenAI Nonprofit) that controls the capped-profit subsidiary (OpenAI LP). that makes it super complex for a public listing.
most of what we've seen so far are these private tender offers for employee shares, where big VCs buy them up. like the one in feb/march this year, i think it valued them around $80 billion? that's not really 'going public' though.
imo, they're probably trying to avoid the full public company scrutiny for as long as possible. especially with all the AI safety stuff and regulatory pressure.
if they *did* go public, i'd expect it to be a massive valuation. but it'd also mean a lot more transparency than they currently have.
so yeah, no solid rumors on a full IPO date. just more private share sales and a lot of speculation about *when* (or if) it finally happens.
