The chip war explained: why gallium and semiconductor controls matter

I keep seeing news about gallium, semiconductors, and countries restricting exports, and apparently it touches everything from phones to EVs. Can someone explain this whole 'chip war' thing in normal-person terms? Just trying to understand why it actually matters for the stuff I end up buying.

Countries are basically hoarding the rare materials needed to make advanced computer chips to protect their own tech industries. It is a massive geopolitical chess match that might end up making all our electronics way more expensive
