Is it bad to use your laptop on a bed or couch?

I basically live with my laptop on my bed or the couch, and a friend told me I'm slowly cooking it by blocking the vents. Is that an actual problem or is he just being dramatic? If it is real, what do people use to keep it cool without having to sit at a desk all day?

Yes. Using a laptop on a bed or couch can block ventilation vents, causing overheating, reduced performance, shorter battery life, and potential hardware damage. Soft surfaces also increase the risk of heat buildup. A hard, flat surface or laptop stand is recommended for proper airflow and cooling.

Yes, it is generally bad to use your laptop directly on a bed or couch. It risks damaging your computer through overheating, and it can cause poor posture and musculoskeletal strain.
