iPhone 'attempts remaining' lockout: how to unlock without losing your data

Picked up my iPhone and it's now showing that 'attempts remaining' message before it disables - pretty sure my kid was mashing the screen. I'm terrified that one more wrong guess wipes the whole thing. Is there any way back in without losing all my photos? Please tell me there's hope here.

If you have a recent iCloud backup you can just erase the phone and restore it to get everything right back. Otherwise you are sadly out of luck since Apple designed that security lockout to be completely unbreakable

If your iPhone displays “Attempts Remaining” on the screen, do not press any passcode again so as to prevent complete lockout. Once a timer has elapsed, carefully enter the proper passcode. The best way to prevent data loss is to restore from a recent backup if you don't remember it. Sadly, Apple does not offer a passcode unlocking method that doesn't involve erasing the device.
