How Wasn't My Laptop Not Effected By the Windows Outage

A recent Windows outage effectively grounded many PCs. But surprisingly, my laptop wasn't one of them. It got updated and restarted normally without showing any signs of trouble. I'm really wondering what made my laptop stay out of the Windows outage mess when others were struggling with their machines. Is it a Windows version thing, update settings, or something else entirely?
