I totally get your frustration, it seems like Facebook changes their settings every other week. To edit your display name, you should go to your profile page and click on your name, then select edit profile, from there you can click on the name field and it should let you change it, if that doesn't work try going to the settings menu, which is usually found by clicking on the little down arrow at the top right corner of the page, and then click on account settings, your name should be in the general account settings section, hopefully that helps.
