I’ve heard about pirate or cracked software versions available online, but I’m not sure about their legality. Can someone explain whether using pirate software is illegal and what the risks are?

Surely, pirated software is illegal. Distribution or use of software which has been cracked infringes upon the copyrights.

Risks include:
  1. My virus or ransom aptitude.
  2. Legal action or fines
  3. Data theft or loss of access
  4. Always download due to official/licensed downloading.

Yes, using, distributing, or selling pirated (unauthorized/cracked) software is illegal. It is a form of copyright infringement because it violates the intellectual property rights and licensing agreements of the software creator. Penalties can include heavy fines and, in severe cases, imprisonment.

Yes, pirate software (unauthorized copying, use, or distribution of copyrighted software) is illegal because it violates copyright law. Penalties can range from substantial civil fines (up to $\$150,000$ per work) to criminal charges, including prison time, especially for commercial distribution. It is considered a form of intellectual property theft.
